T-Ball Rules

I.      Field of Play
  • 50 feet between bases.
  • 15 feet between home plate and pitcher's mound.
  • 10-foot arc in front of home plate, from 1st base to 3rd base line, will serve as a foul ball zone.
  • 10-foot diameter circle around the pitcher’s mound.
  • 3 & 4 yr olds will practice and play games on grass.  5 & 6 yr olds will practice and play on a baseball field as available.
  •  
    II.    Game Time
  • Games will be two innings or one hour long, whichever occurs first. FOR 5-6 YR OLD LEAGUES: games will be three innings or one hour long, whichever occurs first.
  • If there is less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, a new inning may not be started.
  •  
    III.   Offense
  • All players will bat during each inning.
  • No sliding allowed.  One warning per team.  Second occurrence will result in an automatic out.
  • Stealing of bases and leading-off are not allowed.
  • Each batter will be allowed a maximum of six swings at the ball.  If in six swings the batter has not hit
  •         the ball into play, the batter will sit and the umpire will call the next batter. FOR 5-6 YR OLD LEAGUES: If the coach believes that the batter is able to hit an underhand-pitched ball, the coach may pitch a maximum of 4 pitches to the batter.  If the batter does not hit the ball, they will receive 3 swings at the ball placed on the tee.
    E.        The style of pitch (i.e., underhand, overhand) is up to the coach’s discretion based on the batters ability to hit the ball.
  • Players will advance one base only after each hit. (except after the last batter, all players run home)
  •         FOR 5-6 YR OLD LEAGUES:  Players may run the bases freely.
  • Players may not throw the bat.  Player will receive one warning.  Second occurrence will result in an
  •         automatic out. 
     
    IV.   Defense                                                                                                                                                               
  • Regular play has nine players in the field, three of which are outfielders.  All additional players, in
  • excess of nine, must play in the outfield.  If nine players are not present, game will be played with number of players available.
  • Every player will play a minimum of two innings in the field each game, and a maximum of two innings
  •         at any one position per game.
  • Catchers must remain beside the home plate umpire when the batter is at the tee.
  • The pitcher must stay inside the pitching circle until the ball has been hit.
  • Outs will NOT be awarded.  Batters will continue to run bases until they cross home plate.  FOR 5-6
  • YR OLD LEAUGES:  Outs will be enforced but NOT counted.  If a player gets out, they will be asked to go sit down for the remainder of the inning.
     
    V.    Coaches
  • A coach may, after calling time-out, assist any batter by adjusting the tee, batter's position or equipment.
  •         The coach must return to his/her position before play continues.
  • A coach may not assist the batter when the swing is made nor may they touch a base runner.
  • The coach is responsible for announcing the last batter to both the umpire and the opposite team coach
  •  
  • VI.   Overthrows
  • One base is allowed on an overthrow (with the last batter excluded).  Only one overthrow is allowed.
  •  
    VII.   Play is Ruled Dead When:
  • An INFIELDER has the ball:
  • Under control
  • In his/her possession
  • Is inside the baseline
  •                         (All three must be met)
  • Runners who have passed one-half the distance to the next base will be allowed to advance to that base.
  • No play can continue if the umpire calls the play dead.
  • The last batters out must be accomplished by the catcher having possession of the ball.
  •  

    VIII.Uniforms/Equipment

  • YMCA Jersey, shorts, and sneakers/rubber cleats shall be worn for all games and practices.
  • Metal cleats will not be allowed.
  • Batters and base runners must wear a batting helmet.
  •  
    IX.   Score
  • Score will not be kept.
  • The home team is always listed first on the game schedule.  Home team bats second.
  •  
    X.    Miscellaneous
  • The umpire's call will be final.  No disputes are allowed.
