Coach Pitch Rules

I.     Field of Play
  • 60 feet between bases.
  • 20 feet between home plate and pitching rubber.
  • 10-foot arc in front of home plate, from 1st base line to 3rd base line, will serve as a foul ball zone.
  • 10-foot diameter circle around the pitcher’s mound.
    
II.    Game Time 
        A.    Games will be four innings or 1 hour and 15 minutes, whichever occurs first.
        B.     If there is less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, a new inning may not be started.
 
III.   Offense
  • Seven (7) pitch rule applies.  If in seven pitches the batter has not hit the ball into play, the batter will sitand the umpire will call the next batter.  If on the seventh pitch the batter fouls, one more pitch will be allowed.  FOR 9-10 YR OLD LEAGUE ONLY: Balls and strikes will be called by the umpire.  Strikes will only be called if the batter swings at a pitch.  Any player who swings and misses at three pitches will be called out.  Batters will be awarded first base on four (4) balls.
B.       The style of pitch (i.e., underhand, overhand) is up to the coach’s discretion based on the batters ability to hit the ball.
C.       There will be no stealing of bases or leading off from bases until the ball is hit.
  • Sliding is NOT allowed.  All player collisions should be avoided.  Any player purposely running into aplayer from the other team will be called out.
  • A hit ball making contact with the pitching coach shall be a LIVE ball.
  • Players may not throw the bat.  First offense, player and team will receive one warning.  Secondoccurrence will result in an automatic out.
  • The half inning will end when a team hits through the entire batting order (9 players max) OR after 3 outs, whichever occurs first.  The last batter in the line-up will continue to run until they have been put out.  The coach must announce to the umpire when the last player in the line-up is at bat.
  • Bunting is not allowed.  Any hit ball not crossing the 10-foot arc will be considered a “foul” ball.

IV.   Defense

  • Regular play has nine (9) players in the field. If nine players are not present, game will be played with number of players available.
  • Strike outs at home plate will not count towards total outs.  Only fielding outs will be counted towards
the three (3) outs rule.  FOR 9-10 YR OLD LEAUGE ONLY: Strike outs at home plate count towards three (3) outs rule.
  • Each player must play a minimum of two complete innings on defense, and a maximum of two innings at any one position per game.
  • The pitcher must stay inside the pitching circle until the ball has been hit.

V.    Uniforms/Equipment

        A.    YMCA Jersey, shorts or pants and sneakers/rubber cleats shall be worn for games and practices.
  • Metal cleats will not be allowed.
  • Batters and base runners must wear a batting helmet. 
 
VI.   Score
  • Score will not be kept.
  • The home team is always listed first on the game schedule.  Home team bats second

VII. Miscellaneous

  • Every hit ball will be live until the runner/runners stop at a base, crosses home plate, are put out, or theumpire calls time.  If a player overthrows any base while attempting to throw a runner out, runners may attempt to advance one base and fielders may attempt to throw them out.  Play is dead after runners advance one base (i.e. there cannot be a second overthrow by a fielding team)
  • There will be no infield fly rule.
  • The umpire's call will be final.  No disputes allowed.
  • Play is ruled dead when pitcher has control of the ball.
